hi, i m a newbie & this is my first post.I am working on a motel that has Sx 200 ICP, somehow the printer stopped printing. I checked all settings in form 34,looks ok. but when i connect a rs232 tester on printer port none of the light is on its like its dead.Is there a way i can fix the port or what options i have for getting the smdr data. (i know there is a printer port on SC1000 console but not sure how to use it)

You have to go to COS for those trunks and Enable SMDR Overflow. Once you do that wont be any sop on printing.

VAD60, his problem won't be cured, just hidden. Sounds to me like port has taken a hit! Since I'm not certified on ICP, someone jump in here and tell mbtel how to move printer to console. I believe it's only going to be changes in 1 form, but that would be true on a lite/EL. John C.

If its not Ovewright buffer then you have to go first in form 12 and asign any available port to DSCONSOL. The system will know that port is SMDR. Then go to form 34 and dedicate DSCONSOL to SMDR.

You can also use an IPocket for SMDR... DS1103/DS2103 is no longer supported on ICP.

But, when you hook up a laptop (identical setup to setup for programming, but use baud rate specified in maintenance (SYSTEM, SHOW, DEVICE, PRINTER_PORT)) do you get data output into hyperterminal?

Yes? No? or garbage?

The ICP printer port is not an FRU, so you need to be sure.

Like telephoneguy said, the IPocket is the best way to go but that will take you into the IP setup and require some additional hardware. If you can easily connect to the console port that's the simplest and cheapest option to get SMDR quickly.

Form 11: Data Circuit Descriptor
Define a descriptor that matches your desired parameters speed, parity and stop bit
Form 12: Dataset Assignment

Assign the DSCONS to the console port like VAD60 suggested and give the port an available extension number

Form 34: Directed I/O
Direct SMDR to the port you created. Until you resolve the problem with the cabinet's printer port, I would remove SMDR from it.

Hope that helps.

If you log into maintenance, verify your software settings for SMDR by hitting;
System, Monitor, SMDR, enter.
After you complete a call, the smdr info should display on your maiontenance terminal. If you get no info, that tells you that the CDE isn't set up to produce SMDR in the first place.
If it does display, then you know you're definitely dealing with a hardware/setting problem.

In form 12, you program the DSCONS on the same port as the Super Console 1000 (look in form 7 for the port #).
If your console has a power plug on the back (newer style), you'll need the power supply for the serial port (and backlight)to function.
If there's no power jack (older style) you obviously won't need power.
Be sure to reset the console once you've programmed the DSCONS port for SMDR.
