Is there a site that lists telco test tone numbers. I found one, but can’t remember where. I’m looking for the tone for Bath, Maine

If you hunt around the top of the exchange, if its there you will find it. That's all I will tell you because, like ANI numbers these are not there for just anybody to use. Once they get out and abused they will be changed and those of us who legitimately need them will be out of luck.

So who actually uses the milliwatt tone for level measurements when the telco says the levels are ok, but the customer can't hear s--t. It's astounding how few telco folks even know what 'the tone' is really for! The fun part is when you whip out your DB meter and the telco rep gets a blank look on his face. THAT'S when you say 'call your supervisor'. And then the super calls HIS super, who calls an engineer! Oh, joy, what fun. Didn't used to be that way, but with all the buy outs, most of the knowledgeable telco guys have ' gone fishin''.

The milliwatt tone was/is used with a silent termination numbers as well. The test set was a 23A that mesured in DBRNC, that is decibels with reference to noise with "c" message weighing.
