Actually, I seem to recall Plant being mentioned here as having been purchased by somebody. Maybe I shouldn't mention this, but I always wanted to install a GIANT 1A2 system. Closest I ever got to a real challenge was an answering service in the early '80's, that had DID's going to a translator that put the owner's name up on the screen of the position that answered the call. It was not a PC based system. They had four answering positions. When they moved, I prewired for the move so that they could move at 3 AM on Sunday morning and do nothing more than haul the phones and translator to the new office and plug 'em in. Then I went on vacation, and poor Don got to do the actual move. Everything went fine until he plugged in the third answering position console. I forgot to mention the 'Consoles' were nothing more than plain old stock 30 button ITT 2832(?) phones. When he plugged in the 3rd bank of buttons, (connector number 3 for those of you in Rio Linda) the sytem died. A little troubleshooting showed it was a position related problem, so they left the position unmanned and the phone unplugged. Took Don 5 hours Monday to find the problem. Third 25pr punched down UPSIDE down. Not split, or thrown, or 1 color group out of place. The block started out with Sl/Vi at the top and ended with W/Bl on the bottom. "I looked at that block at least 20 times, before I realized what the problem was", he told me when I got back from vacation. What was I thinking when I did that?, that's the thing, I couldn't have BEEN thinking. He fixed it by pulling new cross- connects upside down to compensate. We often chuckled about what would happen when somebody saw the upside down cross-connect arrangement, and decided to 'fix' it.
Well, thats my tell-on-myself tale for the week. smile John C.
