Sorry, I should have clarified, either the * or the # gets the same response. Actually it's the same response I get from any of the keypad keys.

I really have no idea. I'm just trying to avoid haveing a tech called in for a simple fix because I was pushing buttons and didn't pay attention.

press prog 40(absent msg),press enter,then keep pressing sel until absent msg off comes up then press enter
this will return the clock

OBT, Excellent work!...I set up the scenario, and you were exactly correct. I did notice that doing an extension clear also restored the display. Just curious, what was your clue that it was absent message?

I have the panasonic CA connected to my office extension, by default it is set to turn on absent after 5 min, so when I went a way from my computer for that time I'd look at the phone and the clock was gone. so when I read the fault, like you I tried it and hey presto no clock.
It is funny that it will allow you to turn on a blank message for absent message!!!!!!!!
