advice: have an 824 for years. residence. 3 lines. 20 extensions. door phone. I want to upgrade/downsize... kids gone, need less hard line extensions. could use a few wireless (plus about 7 wired units) around the house. also want to figure a way that when doorbell unit rings, i can program my system to call my cellphone so I can have a convo with the doorphone. I already have it hooked up to get an email, via relay to my home automation system. But i have no voice capability. would the TAW848 or the tda50g do this?

Tda50g. Dect cell sites and cordless phones are great for residential. The coverage is unbeatable. The 'rugged' kx-td7696 cordless phone is people's favorite model I've found. The new dt-343/346 model phones are good looking. Newest Pan doorphone is kx-t7775, comes in white, has optional bronze or stainless steel plate.

As far as forwarding your door phone to a cell, I'm sure it doable but I've never done it myself. It seems like you should be able to point the door phone to a forwarded unused extension in night mode, and just put the system in night mode when you leave. Door phone to email sounds nice, never heard of that.

Door phone can be covered by VM, then email would be sent.
But it may not be loud enough for party to hear VM audio, Bogen would be.
Astro is right, night service for forwarding to cell, if you forget you can call in and activate.
Bogen needs surface mount box or recess cut in material at door phone location.
