I have a customer...a container ship that I installed a 2856 on twelve years ago. They want to use a code to unrestrict a digital set for access to their SAT line. They have dial 9 access. I enabled forced account codes. (I am working with the captain by phone) I restricted the phone, first COS 6, we created a flex account code enter button. So the captain presses account code enters 1111* (no verifiable codes) and then gets dialtone, dials 9 gets reorder. So we dropped the restriction to 5. This time the captain can enter an account code, dial 9 gets the SATCOM dialtone but still can't dial first digit 0. Obviously the COS was not upgraded to 1 either time.

What am I missing?

Vodavi's canned toll restriction tables never worked appropriately. They might have been aligned with the dialing plans in Phoenix in the 1980s, but they never worked here.

I always use just COS2 and 3 and set up my own custom tables. COS2 is designed for local/toll free only, so I block the digit 1 but allow 1800, 1888, 1877, etc. In COS3, I block everything except 911. Obviously, COS1 is completely unrestricted.

To get around restrictions for traveling management, I program a system speed bin between 60 and 99 (not monitored by toll restriction) that includes only a pause in the digit string. I also reduce the system's pause timer to one second.

They then just go to any phone, press SPEED plus the appropriate bin number, then receive unrestricted dial tone and dial away.

The beauty is that they can change the bin code at-will at anytime. The bad news is that they are limited to only 40 bins.

Thanks Ed, the speed bin trick should work but does it ignore Cos 6? Intercom only?

I'm not sure, since I've never tried to use any of their canned COS offerings. They never worked for my applications, so I learned early-on to just do it myself with my own allow/deny tables.

Yes. It should work but I have a working 1428 that I can use to verify it for you. That range of speed bins ignores any COS restriction. It was a popular work around in the old days. I guess that dates some of us.

Well, I tried it and COS 6 doesn't have access to speed dial. Sorry.

Testing COS 5 did work though but that canned restriction still allows 7 digit local dialing + 1800, 1911 & 1611. All others are blocked. It looks like you'll have to program a deny table to deny digits 0-9

I'd be happy to try something on my system if you don't have one to test on. But I don't know anything about a Satcom line except that its a Satellite.

Edit:
What about assigning it to group 2, etc. Give the phones a loop key and have the captain dial 82?
