I'm buying a new phone system and have been quoted both Aspire and DS2000. I have very light needs - basically 8 phones and voicemail. Anyway, with equivalent components the Aspire system is only $166 more than the DS2000. Any reason to take one over the other, such as software bugs, reliability, future support, etc....

I have been a Nitsuko tech for 5 years and love it. The aspire is great as well (just hate having to relearn where everything is). until you have to do with groups or DIDs for main trunk lines it is outstanding.
I have only work VERY little on the Pro 1 and 2 So I too am wondering how the Aspire compares to other NEC systems.

NEC markets the Aspire through dealers who are required to have factory-trained technicians. The DS2000 is sold through a distribution chain that will sell to anyone, trained or not. NEC dealers have access to a field engineer while those who buy from supply houses do not. The DS2000 has limited growth but the Aspire can expand siginificantly. Regardless of these issues, the most important aspect of purchasing a phone system is to find a knowledgable and reliable dealer that will perform a high-quality installation and respond quickly to your requests.

Thanks for all your input. I decided on the Aspire with a highly recommended local vendor.

Smart choice. I expect the ds series to be discontinued fairly soon.

I highly doubt the ds series will be discontinued anytime soon considering all the new products they have added like cordless digital phone ,Intramail ,Ultramail t-1 etc.

You think so? Intramail was added because the vanguards are no longer available.
