We have noticed that about once a week, when the office first opens, but not necessarily on the same day each week, when someone tries to dial out they get a fast busy signal. This continues to happen for a few minutes and then finally we can dial out. We have about 60 lines into the office but probably only about 20 that would possibly be being used at the time it happens.

Any thoughts as to why we get this? FYI - I am not an IT Tech or phone person so it may be something really basic that I just don't know.

There are many possible answers to your question. While you have 60 lines on your system, some may be dedicated to inbound or outbound service. if a smaller number is allocated for outbound than inbound, you may be getting a busy because there is not an available outbound trunk. As i said there are many possible answers, this is only one.

Sounds like you have a dead line. If you have approx. 60 lines coming in, you most likely have "Loop" keys on your phones so you don't know which line is dead.. and you are dialing "9" to get an outside line.

Next time this happens look at the display. It should give you a 2 digit number indicating the trunk it is attempting to seize. Make a note of this and contact your vendor.... he will be able to trace the trunk to an incoming line which should be reported to the telco.

When you get the busy tone, press [HOLD], then immediately dial 9 again. This should put the defective line on hold long enough for you to dial around it.

One dead channel on a 30 (Ozzie or is it 28 American) channel circuit is highly unlikely and would require fairly indepth investigation by knowledgeable techs. Sorry eriway but this seems to be a pabx problem and you seem to be applying key system thinking! I am quite prepared to be proved wrong, perhaps the original poster could enlighten us on the equipment we are discussing!

I might also add that the DT300 is the very latest Dterm and I am only used to it being used on the IPS and 8300 however I believe the intention is that the 8100 and the 8300 will converge in the not too distant future so maybe the DT300 is for use on a 8100. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong!

DT300 is compatible with 8100... Not correcting just informing.

you can try the Service code 805 followed by 001 up to 060 to see if there is a defective trunk line.
