Ok, here's what I tried. I have a spare 4.3 box in stock, and pulled the hard drive out, put a maxtor 4.3GB in, fdisked, formatted, and installed DOS 6.22, then installed 4.3 from the install disks.

At the end of the install, it asked for a telephone setup disk ( or someting like that ) which I did not have, but rebooted system and it came up.

When I went into the hardware key settings, it came up invalid key and the numbers did not match as they do on the working drive.

SO....Do I have to buy a drive with the key already on it? I thought that the install disks would generate the key on the new drive.

Can I pull the key from the working drive?

FYI...Not trying to do something I shouldn't, just trying to protect my customers investments. ( And be the HERO the day it dies )

Log into "screens"

under "system" select "hardware key"
once inside that screen select F6(dsk) and a Key ID will be generated from the new drive. This is what we use to generate the new key for the system.

Sorry to have to walk through this step by step, but....

Any idea on a pay-for support basis how this would go down? (cost?)

What I'm thinking about having the customer pay for is a "ready to go hard drive with new 4.3 install, new key (from teleco) and file structure copied from currently running drive.

They are fully AA and to be down for more than a few hours would be a problem.

Thanks for the help!

I really can't help with prices on anything. Call our channel dealer support. They'll be able to help with that. 1-888-550-5700.
