Ran across a DX80 DPM board who's RJ-11 jacks would not seat my solid conductor RJ-11 plugs reliably. I installed the board several months ago to add one extension and wired in the remaining three pairs (used 4-pair wire) while I was at it. Went back to install more phones and RJ-11 plugs didn't seem to seat correctly as I had to push them in and pull them back a tad for the phone to work. Yes, I used solid wire R-11 plugs (I ordered them in a smoke tint for easier sorting) and most likely my Ideal brand ratchet crimper. These were 6-conductor plugs and I usually pull out the un-needed gold contacts with very small side-cutters.

Redid all six plugs: a) again with leaving the un-needed conductors in place, b) again with my AMP tool, c) again with Ideal brand plugs and Ideal brand crimp tool, and d) several other combinations. After an hour I finally cut some preterminated silver satin line cords in half and spliced them to solid conductor wire with B connectors and punched them down. Works fine. Back at the shop, I tested all the plug/cables I made up with a different DPM and they all worked. Swapped out the DPM last week and brought it back to the shop and tested it against three other DPM cards. It was the only card that had this problem of not seating the plugs.

Someone else posted about this happening to them once before but I can't find it and don't know how it turned out. Maybe you can find it.

Mark, I think this IS the thread you were thinking of. The wording and everything sounds mighty familiar, and it was posted back on Jan 18.

I definitely stand corrected. It almost seemed word for word. Strange. We use pre-made cables from Express Communications, and have never had this problem. I did have some the other day that were hard to push in the jacks on the card.

By the way, we now stock the cables from Express. It made things SO much easier. They are just 25-pair cables with 24 mods. Pretty flexible in how they can be used. In certain configurations, I'll have 4 left, and use those to get my page and music ports out of the cabinet, if they needed to go to a block anyway.

I just noticed you said it was from the same person. Now it makes sense!

Thanks for the link. Haven't you seen my posts asking for a tail like this? I've been trying to buy these for a long time.
