I have recently purchased a second hand Samsung DCS 816 system which came with a VSR voicemail facility.

I have had the system installed and a global template has been placed on the handset keys. I am trying to find out how to reset one of the keys to show the voicemail message waiting light(VMMSG i beleive) but when i go into programme the keys this option is not available

To change a key to a vmmsg key,you need to access technician level programming and use mmc 722.I assume that the 816 uses display phones? Then the display should show messages right? And if you press the scroll key 2 times it should bring up VM on the display and you can call the voicemail that way.

I assume you are talking about a DCS Compact. You will need to verify the software version in MMC 727. It could be that your version is older than the VMMSG key.

or that the vm is a stand alone type that's not integrated well into the dcsc. if that's the case you'd have to do a msg button instead.

(corect me if i'm wrong!! but i seem to remember somethng like that)

Thank you for all your help. I have gone into the programming but the only options i have gone into 722 and the only options i have in the "V" range are "VDIAL" and "VREC". I know the phone system and voicemail was integrated before i had it installed as one of the keys has been labelled "HAVE VOICEMAIL".

The ROM version i have is 99.02.09 v4.2
The CPM version i have is 98.12.01 v5.1

Being a UK system I can't tell you what the current software version is but 1999 is definitely going to be an older version. It won't support the VMMSG or VT keys. But if its a 3rd oarty voicemail then thats right you need to use the MSG key as your message key.In the US and Canada that system is called the DS616 and it hasn't been out since 1999.
