Hi,
My office has an ancient Iwatsu Omega IV 824/1628 EM phone system. We recently switched from Qwest phone service to Cox. Everything is working, except the call forward feature.
Before, we were using 72# plus a phone number to forward and 73# to cancel forwarding. We would only forward at night to our answering service.
Apparently, part of the problem is that Cox uses *72 to engage call forwarding and *73 to cancel.
We are very frustrated with this problem. Erroneously, we assumed the transfer would be seemless. The company that set up the Omega IV no longer supports it, but the guy came out and said:
1- He has no manual or knowledge on how to reprogram the Omega IV to Cox standards. 2- Cox may be able to program their system to accept the previous Qwest routine.
Any help programming the Omega IV or confirmation that Cox should reasonably be expected to modify their parameters to allow the old Qwest format to work or any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would check to see if the new carrier has forwarding set up properly. If you are picking up a direct line appearance, then I would not see why you would not be able to forward. You were not using the Iwatsu system when you were forwarding your calls before. You should not have to use it now.
A check you could do yourself would be to hook a jack up to the new carriers line (the line you are trying to forward) and see if you can forward from a single line telephone.

I doubt that the carrier is going to be willing to change the code. Around here, *72 and 72# have always been used interchangably, as well as *73 and 73#. They also have 1172 and 1173 for rotary dial users. You just dial the "11XX" code and wait four seconds for the second dial tone to come on, then follow the regular procedure from there. Lastly, I also seem to recall that if you just dial 72 and wait four seconds, the same thing will happen.
You might want to try doing this instead. It might work. I suspect that maybe the phone system isn't sending out the *. Some systems are strange about sending out the * and # digits.

thanks for the tip. I will try the 72 and wait 4 seconds. I assume 73 and wait 4 seconds will bring it back!?!
If this does not work, we are going to install a jack right at the Cox termination point before the Omega IV box and switch it on and off from there.

unfortunately, the 72 and wait four seconds did not work. The Omega guy is coming in to put in a jack right at the Cox termination point. That seems like it should work, as he was able to tap in at that point this morning with his equipment and engage the call forwarding.

Some of the older Iwatsu switches used the '*' as a control code. Just for the heck of it, try using 2 asterisks...**72 and **73
Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored, they go for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.
