I picked up two used Avaya 1608 desksets for a really cheap price at a sale recently. The sets look barely used. They didn't come with a powersupply, but I got a variable adjustable brick for it to power the phones up. I don't have a PoE switch yet which would have solved that issue. I managed to upgrade both of the phones to the latest firmware version, 1.3.
From what I can tell, these phones are H.323 only and have no SIP support. Is that correct? My experience with VoIP has been Asterisk 1.4 & SIP phones such as the Snom300 and Snom320.
How hard is it to get the phone to connect with Asterisk? Is H.323 support in Asterisk stable?
This is only for my experimentation purposes, but it would be nice to be able to use the Avaya phone instead of a regular analog set connected to a PAP2 ATA.
Thanks for any help.

I know that Asterisk does have H323 support. No clue if it's stable as I've never used it. Your best bet would be either the asterisk mailing list or the #asterisk channel on irc.freenode.com.
voip-info.org might also have some good stuff on it.
