I have a Volcom 1030c that used to work with our Lucent Partner PBX. We moved to a Fonality IP phone system and would like to use the Volcom with it. We are being told that if the Valcom acts like a analog phone (FXS) this should work.

From my reading it looks like there should be a page control unit like a V-2000A which would then plug into the Lucent but for the life of me I can't find it.

So I have two questions.

1) Does the Volcom NEED to page control unit to work with the Lucent Partner "Page" port or is it really possible that we dont have one? Maybe the partner handles the page control?

2) Does the Volcom 1030c work as an FXS interface? If not then is there a way to make it look like an FXS interface?

Thank you!

1. I don't know, but I believe the Partner page port actually had low level battery on it, which would negate the need for a V2000A or equivalent.

2. No, it is more like an FXO port, but for pete's sake, DON'T connect it to an FXS port!. It needs 24Vdc on the black and white leads (which you probably know) and audio on the red and green leads. 1/4 watt @ 1 volt peak-to-peak is more than enough speech power. Lower speech power will probably require low (2-3 volts) DC for the audio signal to 'ride' on. Most page ports don't have enough power. And trunk ports of KSU's don't work without 'talk battery', which the V2000A can provide. Again, DO NOT CONNECT IT TO AN FXS PORT! At best it won't work, at worst you'll damage the 1030C and/or the FXS port.

Go here www.valcom.com and do a little research. OR get the tech support phone number on the web site and call them. They're friendly folks.

KSU Page ports generally output audio at line level, so the amplifier built-in to the Valcom 1030c had something to amplify. You can connect to the FXS port, but you need to insert something to absorb the ring voltage coming out of it, or you may let all the smoke out of the Valcom amp. Viking makes a RAD (Ring Answering Device) which we have used in this situation with great success. The end-user dials a page code, which in reality is the DN of the FXS port, the device answers, connects the audio through to the Valcom and provides loop current and line level, and you're in business.

Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored, they go for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.

Thank you Lightninghorse and JBean3329. It sounds like the RAD might be the way to go. I will do some searching around for one of those.

much appreciated!
