I have a three-panel SanBar 1A2 rack that may have to be put into service.
Prob is, each shelf has 15 slots, but nowhere to plug in a traditional interrupter.

I'm guessing this used a solid-state card instead, but I can't find any doc on it.
Can anyone offer some advice?

I'd be moving an existing Elgin power supply, which I assume is interchangable, and hopefully line cards from our existing 584C system (they are SanBar 4200A cards).

I'll need to have 8 lines working temporarily, while we move the existing 584C system.

Music on hold is also an important issue for this; what would I need in additional to the 4200A cards to make that happen on the SanBar rack?

The original Plant Equipment part number for the solid state interrupter is an 1803 (standard) or 1804 (expanded). The expanded interrupter provides a lamp "flutter" used to provide hold recall indication when using the appropriate Plant Equipment line cards. For your application, the 1803 will work fine.

Yes, you can use the Elgin power supply and the 4200A line cards. Music is sent in over pins 3 and 18 of the card slot. I believe that these pins are factory wired to the output tail connectors.

SanBar made a 4201-200 card that is an FM radio receiver but I doubt they are available anymore. You can simply connect the music source to pins 3 & 18 for each card slot and you will be fine. Use caution by checking to make sure that the panel doesn't have pins 3 and 18 wired to 24 volt talk battery! This was done on some KSU's to provide manual intercom cards, so before plugging in the line cards, measure these pins for voltage or you will surely blow the line cards' MOH circuitry.

Each of the three shelves in this unit has one of its Amphenol slots filled with a plug labeled something like "pins 3 & 18 jumper" (from memory; I'm not there now, and I might not have those pin numbers correct).

I never worked with Plant Equipment products; only ATT/WECO, ITT and some Stromberg/Carlson, GTE/AE and San/Bar. I seem to recall that they were pretty innovative and had all kinds of options not available by the rest of the manufacturers. If you said you saw a 3/18 jumper, that might be just what you are looking for. If it's really a jumper, perhaps it ties all of the slots' pins 3/18 together. I guess being a 25 pair connector, it gives you the option of bringing them out on a separate tail so you can feed anything you want to on a slot-by-slot basis.

I think Plant Equipment was actually headquartered out your way, maybe closer to San Diego. You might have to just ask around with some of the old timers that worked for GTE or Bell who might know someone. Might mean a few trips to a few bars. You know there is someone out there with 25 of those interrupters sitting in a pile in their garage somewhere! I will keep an eye out and see if any are available around here.

If you want to get something that will help you get the temporary lines going, I am sure we can come up with something for you to rent on a short-term basis if you are interested.

Re the MOH issue, if my memory serves, you need to isolate MOH feed to each 400/4200 card or all people on hold will effectively be in a multi-point conference with music in the background. I think ITT had a 6 output card with part number 403. A different John
