Sam,

When I read your second reply pointing out the Operator Recall button, I almost caved and was going to really surprise you by sending you a $100 check.

You see, when I read your original reply I took it as purely a smart-guy answer to Lightninghorse's smart-guy question. So, not remembering about the Operator Recall button and in true smart-guy fashion, I added the question about the lack of a transfer button.

When you replied about the Operator Recall button I thought you had me. Then the gears started turning, smoke filled the room, the fire alarms sounded, the sprinklers gushed, I pulled on my hip-waders and, thankfully, I was able to spew enough "picky, picky, picky" (as Lightninghorse put it) to hopefully save myself!

Now here's another interesting point. Perhaps one of you will remember this more clearly than I do. As I recall, the Operator Recall button was not included on all 10-button keysets. I also seem to recall a model 2831. I have this sneaking suspicion that the 2830 was acutally a DTMF, 10-button keyset without the Operator Recall button. Further, that the 2831 was the DTMF, 10-button keyset with an Operator Recall button.

Any thoughts?

Dr. D -

The 2830 was a DTMF 10 button set. The 2831 was a DTMF 20 Button set.

The "transfer" (I had to put that in) button option was a suffix code on the end. I'll have to look it up in the dreaded basement but as I recall it was something like a -45 on the end (after the color suffix) that got you the operator recall feature.

I'm sure Ed remembers all the suffixes by heart.

Sam,

Ah, ok! I guess I need to clear some more of the cobwebs out of my brain!

Yes, I imagine Ed could tell us the nuances of a specific lot based on date manufactured. His internal "knowledgebase" is quite impressive!

P.S. Thanks for letting me off the $100 hook!

Come on guys!

2830= model number+
XX= color code+
M=Modular handset cord or O= Hardwired handset cord+
BA= Straight-line ringer+
46= Recall button+
M= Metropolitan dial (includes letters on dial)

For example: 283044MBA-46M:

Ten button, tel-touch dial, modular handset cord, standard ringer with recall button in ash with a metropolitan dial. Note that these are ITT part numbers, not WE or Stromberg/Comdial.

You had to wake me up for that? Give me a hard one.

Well I'm not quite ready for the home yet. -46, not -45.

Not close enough to order from the supplier, but close enough (at least for me) after 20+ years.

Well, since you awoke the dragon:

WECO 2871-A01M-50.

Hint: Face plate color optional.

Get back to me gents on this one. Oh, and no DST option on this model either.

Hmmm... Let's see... The number of new messages in my friend's voice mailbox at work?

Ugh... The number 2871 looks familiar, tho I can't recall why.

Well, I'm guessing it's a Western Electric Company DTMF keyset... LOL... Other than that, I give...

Well, ok... The M likely refers to modular handset connection and the 50 should be the color code, indicating Ivory perhaps.

Damn these cobwebs!

Ed -

Well, I could cheat and go look in the (dreaded)basement. but I'll hazard a guess.

The 861 series were the 30 button sets, so what would come after that? The 50, 100, 150 & 200 button models were all Plant equipment and they used a different nomenclature.

I never worked on them, but they came later and as I recall, they only came in one color so I'll guess a comkey.
