Can't get the Express Messenger serial port to connect with the PMS or my laptop running HyperTerminal or even light breakout box lights. Have tried HIS and Encore settings. Can connect laptop using HyperTerminal to PMS and send ACKs but if laptop is connected to the EM and I send ENQs I get nothing. I don't have Express Manager to test the serial port that way. Shouldn't the EM's serial port light breakout box lights regardless of what it is set to communicate with (HIS, Encore, EMgr)?

You have to be using a null modem cable between your laptop and the EM. If you set up your HyperTerminal for 9600 8N1 and unplug then plug in the card you should be able to see the "boot" information on your screen. If not the port is probably bad.

Also, there used to be an old software called "Mitel Express Manager" to simplify the programming. Except for database back-ups, I usually just program through the admin mailbox.

Thanks telephoneguy. Yea, I don't have, nor can I find, and I'm not sure I need or want Express Manager. Connecting to the serial at 9600-8-N-1 None and reseating the EM card did spit out all kinds of bootup info and let me know the serial port was functioning. I finally got things figured out (pilot error). Serial comm kicks my buttset every time. I wasn't figuring on my 25-pin to DB9 converter to be swapping pins 2 & 3. Arrgh. Thanks.
