I'm trying to convert an STS KSU (3500-00) to a gold version (3500-01) and not having much luck. I have changed out the chip set (3520-01) to 3520-03 ones, the system comes up, but it still doesn't support 8 button (3012) sets. The hold button just flashes, but it does display "OK SYNC". This leads me to believe that the chips are correct, but that I'm doing something else wrong. Is the -03 software correct for supporting 3012 phones? Any ideas?

I don't know Ed, never used gold software with anything other than the 3015 30 button sets. If the 30 button sets work, than your software is loaded correctly...I assume that to be the case anyway.

Well, I think that I figured it out. We used to buy the gold version KSUs for all installations, even back in the STS days since there was no difference in cost. This enabled us to use any particular phone model that the customer wanted (or was on the truck for service calls).
The STS version was sold from the factory as a 3500-01 as opposed to the standard version which was 3500-00.
I took a 3500-00 and replaced the EEPROM chips, resulting in the issues that I first posted about. Today, I got a 3500-01 KSU and it worked just fine. From what I can tell, the factory version of the 3500-01 must have had a firmware modification. I guess we learn something new every day.

Ed, the correct upgrade for Gold version is 3520-02. I used to get them free from Aztec, but recently they started charging $40 a set. I have a 3500-00 in my office that I replaced with 3520-02 chips years ago and I have the "gold" support on my system now. Isn't 3520-03 the "home" system?

I'm really not sure, Don. When they came out with the Ranger cordless phone, the STS didn't support it without a software upgrade in the KSU, so technical support sent me about a dozen sets that I've had sitting here. They were all marked -03 and I was told at the time that it was the gold version. I just know that I'm now able to support 8-button phones for an existing installation where the KSU crashed now and I'm happy.
