I, always thought.. "If it ain't broke don't fix it"..

But that don't make money, so they break it themselves to sell more and newer product.

Microsquish developer's motto:

"If it ain't broke, we did something wrong. If other developers can write code to fix a bug we created, it must be inferior to our native code. Our beta release software is really only 'comic relief' for us as developers. We enjoy watching users be surprised by the BSOD. Heck, we even pulled the joke on our boss, Bill Gates when we released the 'broken out of the box' Win 98."

You will eventually have too. What you will find is software that wont run on XP, especially stuff like AV, video players, etc. Eventually they won't be compatible. While XP was fairly good, its served its time. I run win 8.1 with no issues other than the other WinSPM won't run right.

This whole XP thing has given us a pile of work upgrading customer machines or migrating data to new PCs, so I'm not complaining. XP had a good, long run.

That said, I don't have anyone asking for 8 - they all want to stick with 7 for now.
