Hello all,

I recently purchased a Merlin Legend system with 13 MLX phones and a maxed out slot carrier. It also came with some other goodies, like two 10/100 Ethernet switches, an AT&T Paging controller, and this mysterious Westell wall-mounted "thing." It appears to be, from what little Google has told me, an ADSL carrier, or at least a case where such devices can be mounted inside of and locked.

Here is the Westell technical document I get when I search the model number.

https://www.westell.com/docs/extranets/28ma200xx_d90_030.pdf

It's locked shut by one of those payphone style key locks. The auction did not come with the key.

Inside the unit are two ADC HRU-402 modules. Google tells me they appear to be high-gain ADSL modules. But they also both say DS1 on them along the left side.

Here's a photo of what they both look like: https://salestores.com/stores/images/images_747/HRU402L1.jpg

My question is really just...is there anything I can do with these? Turn them into a T1 and connect them to my Asterisk server? It would be great if I could reduce the amount of wires in my closet, considering I'm using two 2-port ATAs for my C*Net and regular SIP PSTN lines. That's four cords right there...not including the cords for all of the extensions in the house.

Thank you all for any input.

Scott smile

Looks like a T-1 card that belongs to the LEC to me.

I'm with Bill.

Could you use it as a T-1 Source? Maybe if you plugged an ADSL circuit into one end it might spit out a T on the other......

But essentially - I would think, No.

I'm with Bill on this.

You got a 2 slot SmartJack housing with two T1 cards installed.

THis is what I found out about the cards with a quick goggle search.

This Remote Unit HRU-402 functions as the remote ends of repeaterless T1 transmission system

The Legend system came with:

R6.0 V11.0 Processor

1x 400/GS/LS/TTR
1x 800 GS/LS
3x 008 MLX

I have since swapped out the 800 GS/LS card for an 012 Basic telephone card. But it appears my system doesn't have the built in ring generator...so so much for that. I'm getting some classic Merlin 5-button sets later next week and I should have my 008 ATL card before they get here.

If the system didn't come with an MLX-20L, hunt down one...along with the needed power supply. smile

I've got an MLX20L and an MLX 28D. The system came with both.

That looks just like one of the smartjacks installed in my phone room.
I don't know of anything you would really be able to do with it.
