We currently have a 5 slot panel with the current configuration, from left to right. First board is the Partner mail VS R5.0, then 206E Module R3.1 followed by the ACS Processor. I want to Add the 308EC expansion for more lines. Can I just install this to the right of the processor or do I need to move the 206E to the fourth slot and put the 308EC into the second?

You could do either. Stations on 206 modules are more prone to failure such as static. If everything on the 206 is OK, put the 308 to the right of the ACS. If you want to guard against the eventuality of station failure on the 206, move it to the right of the ACS, put the 308 in slot 2 and plug the cords back into the correct ports.

If you wanted to do everything correctly, you would put the 308 in slot 1, the 206 in slot 2, and the voicemail in slot 3 (the center slot is actually numbered "P" for processor). This would eliminate the gap in your extension numbering plan from 18 through 23 as you add extensions in the future.

is this just as simple as plug and play? I can just move the modules, plug in the wires and go about my day?

No, you will have to reconfigure the VM ports.

With the VM first then the 206 as you have it now it was not done correctly to begin with. You have a gap in the extension numbering. The VM should always be in the last slot with certain exceptions.

In a nutshell,

Check Hunt Group #7 to see which ports are currently assigned, add 8 to the range to accommodate the 308EC, remove the old ports and the new ones.

Ok, I think I have a handle on this now. Currently hunt group 7 is assigned to x20-23 because of the location of the module. with the new setup left to right, 308EC, 206E, Processor then the VM, the hunt group needs to be reassigned to x35-38? I would need to also unassign x20-23. anything else that I would need to do?

Thanks again for all the help, I had zero knowledge but slowly learning!

I get 34-37 but that's counting on my toes.

Other than backing up the new configuration after everything is fully checked, you should be good to go.

Once the modules are in their proper positions, test the new voice mail ports to make sure the correct ones are in Hunt Group 7.
