Hi all,

I have a question regarding on how to activate an existing NEC DSX phone system. I will be moving into a new office building in a couple of weeks and apparently the new office has an existing NEC DSX phone system that is available to me. I have the option to use it and would like to. However, I am not familiar with this phone system or don't understand the process of to getting it up and ready for use.

I haven't been to the site so I'm not sure which NEC DSX model. I assumed the model is a NEC DSX 40.

My question is -

What is the process of adding a new analog lines to work with this system?

After my local telcom provider add the new lines. Will the phone system recognize the new anolag lines automatically?

Do I need to program the new numbers into the phone system?

Thanks in advance.

It will depend on how the previous owner had the system programmed - I would advise getting an NEC DSX tech to come out and program the system to your specifications.

Thanks for the reply!

Sorry I wasn't clear in my last post. I have the option to purchase the system.

Most likely I will call a phone tech out; however before I do. Do I need to contact my phone provider to add analog lines ahead before hand?

Yes it would be best to have the lines in place before the DSX tech comes out to set it up .

if you want your lines to roll (if line one is busy it goes to two etc etc then you need to set that up with the phone provider its not a function of the DSX ) so tell the phone company you want a hunt group with your main number as the pilot line and then how many other lines you want in the group

the lines don't need to be programmed in per se but how they are handled does and that's a function for the installer

Also, if you are thinking of adding more than 4 lines in your hunt group, you may want to pull the cover off of the DSX-40 and verify that you have the expansion 4COIU card installed or have the tech survey the system prior to ordering the lines.
