I have tried to replace a console that acts squirrely now. It's supposedly a gray IDS console. When I do Default All, it does populate with Opt's Personality however, when look at the Executone Edocs, some of the defaulted fields come up wrong. My question is about the ones that the edocs say "Do Not Make Changes", but doesn't say what they should be. Do these look right? Anyone remember? F6 SCREEN .........= (132 Columns) F7 SCREEN ANSWERBACK = (blank) F8 SCREEN Unshifted Direction = REMOTE SHIFTED DIRECTION = REMOTE F1 = >S/h sF1 = c/r F9 SCREEN LABEL F1 = (blank) LABEL sF1 = (blank)

Mine does not indicate what they would say if you hit the key which is what I assume you posted above after accessing the key? Never had any reason to even look at them. Are the rest of the fields correct and if so what do you mean by acting squirrley? Loose connections or bad connectors would have the same effect was the previous CRT doing the same thing. Remember if the IO cable is loose at the back of the cabinet it will also cause issues with the CRT.

First one died, brought out another one that was labeled as a WYSE terminal but, had a sticky note saying it was in fact a gray ids console. - random key functions, sometimes disconnected callers, problems transferring. - Tried moving it's pairs. - checked continuity on the station cable pairs, verifying open/close while I shorted and opened the pairs. - tried another port at the IDS - replaced the jack for the console. - replaced connector on the back. - tried swapping modem/aux setup - replaced the line cord. - gave up and said I'll order you another one and set them up with a 29K display phone. (Night key, VMS key and Page key added) Replaced it with one whose cabinet was gray but the front was white. - new keyboard did all the things wrong the 2nd one did. - re-used their existing keyboard, all seemed good. They called back saying it was doing the same types of things again. - did default-all in the consoles menu Ctrl+setup. - it wasn't happy, went through the edocs and saw that doing default all on this console put up some values that were not what the book said. - updated them to match the book. Except, those couple of screens the book says "don't change" but, it doesn't say what they should be, if they were changed. - Gave up again, put the 29k back, reset up it's keys etc., and said I would order another replacement. - I have done a lot of these. I think it's just getting to the point that the refurbs have been refurb'd so much that they're done.

Sounds like you are doing the correct thing. I will mention again if the I/O cable going to the cabinet backplane is loose it causes all sort of issues. You may want to check that and insure it is seated good both top and bottom. Also you cannot mix keyboards with the older style gray consoles with the newer style consoles. (Like any of them are new)
Moden/Aux is only changed if you are using 232 port instead of 422 port from system
Old IDS and BBOX part numbers Operator Terminal & Phone Box BBOX PT # IIS 440017-1 IDS TERMINAL ONLY (WHITE) 177017AU IIS 440018-1 IDS KEYBOARD FOR WYSE 60 TERMINAL WH 177029A IIS 440017 IDS TERMINAL ONLY (GRAY) 177017U IIS 440018 IDS KEYBOARD FOR WYSE TERMINAL GRAY 177029U

CPU - I don't remember, it's a 228 though. Going back tomorrow with another console. - MC601, yeah that's a good idea about that service cable. Maybe it is loose inside, this (IDS) forum is a little slow these days, I'll update this tomorrow.

They ended up saying forget it and are just using the much more diminutive 29K. Never even took the most recent console replacement out of the box. They shuddered when I carried the box with it, in.
