Can anyone tell me if this is a nonstandard power supply and if there is anyway to match it with a standard power supply?

This is for my DVR on a security camera surveillance system and the fans which are built into the power supply are extremely small and unbelievable loud. The manufacturer does not even achknowledge this model power supply and I think its was done as a nonstandard custom project.

I would like to replace it with a normal power supply however the pinout looks very strange to me.

Any idea of why this do this or what it means?

Does the PSU have a sticker on it with make/model and/or voltages listed? I assume the DVR provides power to the cameras (i.e. no external wallwarts for the cameras)?

Here you go.

Its Power over Ethernet (POE) cameras and the NVR/DVR supplies the power to the cameras although technical I think the cameras could be powered without the DVR if I had to.

Does the pinout look unusual for the power supply ?

That's an SFX12V powersupply, not a standard ATX powersupply. So you'd need to replace it with another SFX12V powersupply.

The SFX is really more of the form factor rather than the pin out configuration?

Look at the wiring (pin out) on the newegg one

compared to the one in the picture. I think a normal pinout is like 20 wires plus an additional 4 for new computer. The specs for the newegg power supply say " 20+4Pin"

The one in the picture has 17 wire connectors and 4-red, 9-black and maybe 4 yellow. It also looks like the same wire is going into more than 1 slot.

So my question is really about the pinout configuration more than the form factor of the power supply.

My friend told me that when you wanted to upgrade a hard drive with X-box, they had certain wires reversed from a standard hard drive. So if you wanted to replace the drive, you had to switch the wires in the setup. I wonder if this DVR has something like this as well?

Alright. What about breaking open the existing PSU and replacing the fans with quieter ones?

If push comes to shove, you can easily connect outboard power supplies to do the job. The 12 VDC can be supplied by any number of high power regulated power supplies. The POE power can be supplied from a 48VDC regulated power supply.

But I'm with just replacing the fans. It's cheap and easy and solves a lot of messing around.

There are a bunch of sfx power supplies on ebay ,maybe one will work for you.
