is it possible that you can delete numbers on display because of and error prior to dial out?

If you put it into PRE-DIAL MODE.
Feature *82 - select PRE-DIAL.
Then dial number, make an error, hit backspace, correct number, then press line.
If CON is the opposite of PRO
Then what is the opposite of Progress?
