Hello everyone,

I have a task to connect 2 buildings at work, distance is roughly 25-30 feet between buiding walls. The primary use would be network access to wide web, possibly to internal network for one user. One of the buidings is a metal sheet construction.
Do not feel like digging a trench for conduit as it would be time and money consuming.
I've picked up two Enginius ENS500 access points locally, played abit with them at home and have what I believe to be a successful configuration setup. I am just surprised at the fact how easy it was.
Is it really that simple with these what looks like well built outdoor rated devices?
Would I be able to configure devices to restrict access between internal server access and and just have the straight path to internet? (Might just have to do it on sonicwall end, not sure yet how the final setup will turn out.)
Like I said, did not spend alot of time with the new toys yet, but already like the results.
I was also wondering if I went overkill on these devices because EnS200 is pretty much the same thing, except for the wireless frequency being at 2.4 vs 5. Also, note that price for both models was the same.

Thanks

I've done exactly what you describe with a pair of Outdoor Engenius units at a golf course, can't remember the model at the moment. I too found it very easy to set up. Be sure to use nice strong WPA2 AES encryption, with a nice long key, as you can easily paste the key in between browser tabs when setting these up. I also hid the SSID just so it's a bit cleaner. I also seem to remember having to update the firmware as it was a bit unstable before I did that. Called tech support and they said "Oh you need to update the firmware".

It will act as a "client bridge" which means it is fundamentally similar to having a cable connected, passing broadcast and multicast traffic, operating at layer 2, seeing only MAC addresses. So you'll need to do IP access restrictions on either at a layer3 switches or your routers.

If, on the other hand you wish to do MAC level filtering you can do it on the Engeniuses themselves or a smart switch.

I did wds bridge mode, the firmware seems to be current, i don't think i saw option to hide ssid, but it was not visible when i tried with tablet. I'll mess with it and tweak it some more tomorrow at work.
I found the manual needing some work on it as some manufacturers are chewing all the terms and their functions to the simple people, i guess these models are aimed at people with some more knowledge in the networking area than avarage household.
Hiding the ssid was definitely on the list to prevent people from naging on the wifi password constantly instead of working. Dont recall seeing option for it though in wds bridge mode, i do remember seeing option to change the ssid which i left alone for the in home test setup and run.
I really want to rip out the old sonicwall from the environment as it is old and client licenses it has are just not enough to make all the equipment play nice with each other after I'll add at least 4 more ip addresses into picture.

Thank you
