Hello.

I had lighting hit the power utility and it damaged the Power company equipment. The power was out for a day then came back on then turn off again for a day.

I look at the Nitsuko 124i KSU and it looks like the wires which output from the power supply on the Nitsuko 124i KSU to the motherboard are shorted and fused together. The rubber on the wires has falling apart.

I took liquid electrical tape and have attempted to insulate the wires from shorting out however there is no signs of life from the system. No led lights, nothing.

I want to test the power from the power supply to see if that is operating normally. Does anyone know what the reading should be or what might be wrong with the system due a possible lighting strike?

Thanks.

I see the Nitsuko forum is as dead as the phones are.

Anyway, the wires are like fused together and I believe shorting out the system.

When the wires are separated, it will turn on.

I figured I would give an update in case anyone ever had the same problem.

I would advise anyone considering a Nitsuko phone to run for the hills. I have already purchased a samsung system for when this piece of junk Nistuko stops working.

Thanks.

Let me get this straight a 20 year old system gets hit by lightening and continues to functon and it's junk? LOL. FYI Nitsuko was bought out a long time ago by NEC.

If I were you I would just replace the KSU. Here is one on ebay for under $60.00.

20 years on a phone system is great. Any phone system will turn into a BBQ grill if it takes a direct hit.

The lighting did not hit the phone system or building directly but rather the power company equipment down the road.

The system is basically ok but it would be nice if the phone caller ID could store the call log like most phones do. The volume on speaker phone is not quite loud enough and the software is awkwardly designed . Its lacks the ability to see the existing information layout like you can with the Samsung.

Third, I think its technically been running for 23 years not 20.

Well considering the system came out with the Prostar 616 systems it was light years ahead of Samsung. I have no idea what you are talking about "using existing data" LDAP? LDAP came years after this system, DOS was used in this era. If you are talking about copying button maps from one phone to the others you most certainly do that.

23 years, ya I think you got your money out of it.

judging by your pictures 2 things could have happened.
1)there was still an electrical surge that got to it.
2) someone screwed in to the wires.

I can't understand the sentiment to run for the hills if you have a chance to buy a Nitsuko system.
They are a rock solid system that has been going strong for many customers for 20+ years. They are old, they are a bit difficult to program. However, if you want a reliable phone system and someone knows how to program them, you can get one new in box, AND you don't care about the latest and greatest bells and whistles, you know for about 1K you can get a system that will last you 20 years. So go ahead and run.

He's comparing a 23 year old system to one of today's system? Are you freaking kidding me?

Can you believe it my old 1A2 key system doesn't have caller ID
