I am helping a small non-profit that was given a basic 1 cabinet ECS and 11 phones all about 4 years old. The only manuals that came with it are an ECS 5.x owners manual that only lists off features and a station users guide. No ip cards; just a trunk card, digital station card and 4VML VM card. The system was said to be working when pulled, so I should only need to change some ringing, user names, etc. From searching the Internet, it looks like I need an ECS programmer to do that?? If so, where can I get that software? thanks

The best thing to do is to call in the vendor. The programming software is proprietary and is almost impossible to legally obtain if you are not dealer. One hour of a the vendor's time should be able to make any of the changes you need.

The other side of the coin is that programming one of these is not intuitive. You either know what you're doing or you don't. Getting the dealer to help you out is the best advice I can give you.

I did find online the MDF wiring diagram so at least I can do the physical install for them.

Just to be clear, I wasn't questioning your abilities or motives. These switches aren't exactly plug and play, and 1 hour of a vendor's time, while costly, will save hours and hours of grief and hair pulling.

Good luck with all that you CAN do for them, and good on you for trying.

The local Iwatsu vendor had another install down the street and promptly installed the system. So promptly that station user names were not communicated and the stations display just the default 201, 202, etc extensions ids.

Isn't there a feature code that will let me enter the real user names for stations either from 201 or each station without a service call each time? I understand that the port or virtual port number probably has to be used and am familiar with doing that with other systems.

There isn't much in the way of user programming with the ECS. You need the programming software to do just about everything.
