I have customer with low audio issues when talking on CO truck...person outside ESI complains. It is a 50L with 60D phones. ESI has adjusted handset gain...they have adjusted and adjusted ...still low volume unless the gain is maxed out which makes a crappy side tone and static. The lines are charter lines on their modem/pots line combo device. Does anyone know if Charter can adjust there lines? I am at the point where I may lose my customer. Any help appreciated

First off, you need to do a little testing on your own. The ESI meets Telcordia specs and if the LEC is not meeting the specs, then it's up to the LEC to fix the issue.

1. With a level meter, like a Sidekick or Dynatel, read the 1 KHz. loss on each line. If it's much more than -8 db, the LEC should be able to put it in a range that is reasonable. If it is between -8 db and -11 db or more and the LEC won't/can't do anything for you, then look at the link provided above for a solution from Sandman.

2. Using either a Sidekick, Dynatel or VOM, measure the off hook current. Each line should be between 25 to 35 ma. Anything less than 25 ma. and the current is too low to provide reliable telephone service. Again, the LEC should be able to resolve this, but, if they will not or can not, look at Sandman for a solution.

3. You should also read the power influence as well as noise levels as these, if out of range, can also affect line levels.

System and phones are at 11.05.55.30 Been on phone ESI even talking to them the audio quality is bad trying to hear them. If I talk to anyone on a 50L and 60D phones there is a noticeable difference in audio quality. It is between the 4x8x2 card, phone and handset.... reason I think so is because after hours I can call customer when the AA picks up....audio is great but throw handset and phone in the mix and the audio quality is really bad. They can correct some of it with Mic Gain but that does nothing but pickup background noice and makes poor side tone. Never had any issues with the old S,C and E Class systems and 48/24 key phones.

ok, so, the system is at 11.5.55.30, What is the version on the Phones? current and up to date is something like 4.02 ( there were issues with older versions of 60D's) They can be field upgraded-but...it's a pain( especially if you have a Bunch of them)

OK. Here is a simple test. Connect a 48 button phone to one of the ports on the 482. How is the audio now?

The phones are up to date. I'm not sure the actual version. ESI has been in system a dozen times and they have looked at all that. The audio is better with 48 key phones but still not where is should be.
