Greetings, It has been a really long time since I've had to back up a 3.7. Does anyone know the procedure to back up to a local laptop not on a network? TIA, John

John:
I can never remember. Is 3.7 accessed through web browser or through Element Manager?
If Element Manager - Just click and it steps you through. If Browser - send me an email. I will send you my address to your Private Message.

4.0 and up is Element Manager, in other words all Linux systems use EM.
What you need is BRU - Backup and Restore Utility available from the Unified Manager.

Volume ID is 10 Type is REMOTE logical name is VOLUME Location is \\192.168.1.108\BCMBU2 (which is a shared folder on my desktop) User Name is delllaptop\John I hit select back up location shows \\192.168.1.108\BCMBU2 I hit START BACKUP User Name shows delllaptop\John Password (I enter the password I use to log into windows) hit submit it shows the info I hit o.k I get AN Error has occurred when attempting to connect to the remote drive. ERROR: 13 Permission denied !! Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong? TIA,

Just looking at what you have, it looks ok.
Your computer name is delllaptop ??? Try changing your computer name. Change to 8 characters or LESS. How about dell
Just a gut feeling.[color:#FF0000][/color]

O.k. everything I had was o.k. the trouble was in the shared folder I had not checked (turned on) all the options in permissions. Thanks for all your suggestions. Next step is to upgrade this box to 4.0.
