I guess, in both pictures, removing dead cables might be asking too much.

That's all abandoned? Ka-ching, ka-ching! We could have a real nice party at a fancy restaurant with what that's worth as scrap. smiley-bounce

Is that corrosion on those blocks?

Yes, that green stuff is corroded wires. Since the groups all have service loops, it is not difficult to cut off the modules and re-splice. The expectation was 100 pairs per hour. On a good day I could do 400 - 600 pairs per hour and then coast.

The nice thing about those 710 modules is that they can be cut out and replaced (live) while only losing about 1/2 inch of wire length. I can't tell you how many times I've done that. Looks to me like this splice has not been kept sealed properly, but even so, filled modules shouldn't have corroded. I can't tell if they're green (filled) or gray (unfilled) ones.

Man, Arthur. The best I've ever gotten has been 400 pairs (straight splice), in a pedestal in an hour, using 710s, in new construction and perfect weather. Even then, I was pushing it. My hat's off to you.

Before the advent of splice modules, what was the expected hourly splice rate for loose B wire or UY connectors?

I seem to remember 600 pair in a 7 hour day. But my memory may be a little hazy.

Who needs BNC connectors when installing cameras when butt splices work?

Oops! No BNCs on the truck. Guess I'll have to jerry-rig a connection.

BNC to what? All I see are black and white wires.

I would like to believe that somehow the connector had come off the camera so someone rigged it up like this to save the customer some money. Either that or the previous tech damaged it and didn't want to out of pocket a new camera.

I sure am glad it wasn't my mess to clean up. I do have to admit...I have never seen fiber jumpers look this bad before.

Unfortunately, some of the FDP cabinets at my last employer looked like the "before" picture. Some of the coax crossconnect cabinets looked even worse. sick

Just incredible! Did any of the circuits in the "before" picture actually work?

What's with all of the blue painter's tape labeling? Have they never heard of a proper labeler?

They're even using it instead of velcro in places!
