The BCM 450 has been discontinued for a few years, so that tells you what you need to know about the 400. Obviously, they should take a different route.

SIP Trunks work best on the latest software R6 on BCM50 and 450.
On the 400 it is primarily used to like other phone systems.
BCM400: uses IP authentication - old method with carrier (ask the carrier if they support this method)
BCM50/450: uses SIP registration - new method with carrier

You can however have SIP lines converted to analog for your Trunks just like cable companies use.
