I am the one at our company that handles out axcess 5.119 system and have used this forum many times to fix problems. I have an intermittent problem with at least 3 fax machines that are having problems obtaining an outgoing trunk. These have been working for quite a while and this problem seemed to start a couple of days ago with no config changes. When it fails you hear what sounds like a fast busy before you even hear a dial tone or the outgoing dialed digits. You can cancel and try again and it will usually go through. We are not having any trouble obtaining a trunk on any of our 80+ keysets or the handful of analog phones. I have looked at the timers to see if I could find a logical one to change no luck. I am going to reset the system since it is not scheduled to reset on a regular basis but have to wait till off hours. Any help would be appreciated.

This sounds a lot like a line problem. Have there been any outside line or PRI changes. Some of the new products that providers are bringing in often have problems with modems and faxes. Check your outgoing line group. This may or may not be the same as the phones. Check the routing of outgoing calls for the analog ports, the faxes may have a different pattern than the phones. Check for anything plugged into the other ports on the fax machines. Take a butt set and go to the dmarc and listen to the line for an entire operation.

I did think to look at the T1 diagnostic page and saw that there was some errors on our long distance T. I really do not have a way to hook up to this as the intertel card is the end of the telco loop. I called our carrier and they said that they changed some settings on the T1 that could effect the ability to send faxes. Have not had much time to see if problem is better as it is intermittent.

You might look at the outgoing access for the extension of the fax, make sure you have enough chanels or trunks available in that group to accomidate multiple faxes. The fast busy sounds like a ARS unavailable you woulod hear when a chanel or trunk group is unavailable.

We have the same outgoing line group for both keysets and faxes. It is set up for anything long distance to go out over a LDT1 and anything local goes out over a local PRI. This leaves us with 48 outgoing lines and we very seldom if ever reach a point that we cannot get a trunk because of busy. If this was the problem we would see the problem on regular phone calls not just fax calls. There is nothing using the other port on the fax machines.

Ask your carrier, specifically what changes did they make to your circuits. If you're getting errors and have connectivity issues after these changes, I think that you answered your own question!

Did you try to hyperterminal into the T1 card to read the errors?

I had the problems before the carrier made the changes and it has not gotten worse as a result of the changes. But they have not gotten any better either.

You might have a dealer kick you up to ver 52f2. It won't require a PAL upgrade and there are many bug fixes.
