Hello Again Everyone

We are beginning to test IP phones in one of our remote locations on a Mitel 5000 Ver. 2.4. This is my fist time working with an IP phone and all I have done to this point is upload the software key. I am not in the location where the Mitel 5000 is located but I am in an office that is located on the WAN. Now that I have uploaded the license key what do I do next? No configuration has been done to the phone system at this point. I have plugged in the IP phone and I get an error saying NO DHCP RESPOSE RESET IN XX SEC. It is showing the MAC address and my IP address of 10.0.14.104 (Not on our DCHP range). I know that DHCP is working in our office and that the Ethernet jack I am plugged into is working and is able to obtain an IP address via DHCP. The IP address the phone shows is not an IP address in our range. Is there a chance the phone has a static IP assigned to it (The phone is brand new from Mitel)? What am I doing wrong? Thanks

I would question if it is a new phone. I've never had a phone come from the factory with a static address and if you are on the local network LAN the phone will come up without making any changes if the mac address is programmed in the phone system. This will not allow the phone to be moved outside the local network, that will require several changes in the phone and in your routers and firewalls etc.

I am not on the same LAN but I am on the same WAN (Different Subnets). Do I need to be on the same subnet as the phone system? If so I should be able to static IP the phone to the same subnet as the phone system and connect. We do want to have the ability to use IP phones off site. What ports need to be opened on the firewall?

I guess it depends on how you want to configure it. On the same LAN is easiert from a phone aspect but on the same WAN is easier form a network aspect I'm sure. If you have a route to take the phone to the phone syatem already in place via VPN or something like that it is really easy. Configure the phone system with extension and mac address. You can set the phone to DHCP or to a static address and point it to the IP of the phone system and all should be a go. If not you will need TCP ports 5004, 5566, 5570, 6004 to 6604 and UDP 5567. I would open TCP 4000 DB programming and TCP 22 Putty so you can access the system remotly and trouble shoot with putty i.e. ping a phone from inside the phone system. You will need additional ports opened if you decide to put Mitel phones on the system (available on 3.0 and above)For waht it's worth 8662's seem to work a lot better and easier with better trouble shooting tools built in
