I am looking for an off-the-shelf outdoor enclosure with a mini 66-block (split) mounted in it. I have a customer that needs a 6-pair cable run to a point on the outside of their building and terminated in this box (connection point for construction trailer). I need a split 66 block because were going to use ITW Linx SCP 2x2 protectors.
In the past we have ordered custom-made NEMA-3R boxes, but I need one fast. Any suggestions?

You can get a 12"x12" PVC box from Graybar, Home Depot, etc... and put a 66 block in it. If you need it fast and cheap.

This is where it pays to collect those almost new 6 pair protectors in outdoor cans that the TELCOs leave around. Whenever we have a situation like this they come in handy and cost nothing. These are available if you wanted to buy them also.

Reliable Electric (Reliance, R-Tec, now Emerson Network Power) makes a small green enclosure called D-WIRE or E-WIRE (I believe). It is about 15" high and about 4" square (Width x Depth), designed for outside plant transitions between aerial and underground cable plant in rural environments. Just to give you an idea what they look like, they appear to be the upper 15" of a traditional light green underground pedestal, although much skinnier than the usual 6X6" dimension. Also, they are designed for wall or pole-mounting.
An M1-50 block fits perfectly inside it and is really well gasketed for cable entries. We purchase them from Sprint North Supply for about $15.00 each and use them all the time. The last time we bought them, I think they were made by Channell Commercial Corp. All of Channell's stuff seems to be plastic now. Still, if you can find the D or E-WIRE enclosures, they are perfect for the application.
Don't use PVC electrical boxes; use real Telco-grade equipment. Show the customer how it's supposed to be done, not just something that an electrician would do.
