Ok Guys I could use some help here. I have a customer that we installed their phone system and also setup a basic 8 port linksys router for their data. The problem is that they keep losing connectivity after about 20 mins online. Their connection is a Time Warner VersaPak box. Basically a T1 with voice and data. I tried another router same problem. I also hooked my laptop up to the time warner box and had no problems. So i am thinking that one of the PC's is causing the problems. I tried plugging in one or two Pc's at a time without any luck. It seems that it doesn't matter which PC's are connected they still lock up. I am really confused now and do not know what direction to go in. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I dont see it being a pc , im wondering if the "versa pack box "has a router built in ?

I would try to disable the router function in the linksys or replace it with a 8 port switch and see what happens
The router is set up to take in an ethernet connection for the WAN port.

is the "VersPAK" like a DSL service? or T1?

I have had issues using some T1 routers with linksys routers.

It would show a link but it would not pass data.

Worked great tied directly to the laptop but not to the Linksys router.

Fix for them was to set a switch in between and never had another problem. Didn't make since but I am not the only one locally that had the problem.

Just a thought.

Which model of Lynksys router are you using. Routers of this type have a setting that will disconnect the WAN side after a period of inactivity, on the main setup screen there should to be 2 settings at the bottom. By default the max idle time is 5 minutes and there will be a second setting for redial and keep alive period. The second setting is the one you want to activate. Linksys is ok in a home network but in a business application with high network use they can be unreliable. There are some exceptions but as a rule this will be the case. For small businesses we us Netopia R910's.
i had this problem up until recently. linksys routers are pretty reliable but in some applications are not the best. May i recomend IPCOP. i have installed it at 4-5 sites and it will run on any old pc. I picked up some SFF boxes at a liquidator and installed it. After 10 minutes i had it up and running. You can add content filtering and net use logging, all free. it even gives you dmz (orange) and public wireless (blue) ports. Since ive been using IPCOP its been running solid.
just my opinion, its solid

We always have the provider, wether DSL or Cable or T1 to put thier box in Bridge mode, (this turns off thier router function) otherwise there is a conflict.

We just put in DSL from AT&T and a new netgear firewall router. The last two mornings the internet wouldn't connect. Once I had to reboot the modem, the next time both the modem and the router. I'll be checking the time out settings in the morning.

I second the IPCOP suggestion. I use it for multiple setups, it will run on an older system just fine!
