We bought a couple of the above noted routers for customers.
We can't get them to function.

We opened tickets with support, they say everything's correct, and we'll get back to you after we talk to the engineers. Of course they never get back and when you call in again, by then the 30 day support is long over.

I've heard these are decent, reliable routers.
Looking for someone who may have installed similar
( especially port forwarding )

They look fairly straight forward, but I must be missing something.

Any help would be appreciated.

Need more info. What is the configuration? Is the ISP Internet connection going directly to this router? Are you trying to use the router behind another router as an extender? Did you enable your port forwarding? Can you ping the IP address of this router?

The ProSafe Gigabit 8 Port VPN Firewall FVS318G is what in the IT world calls a consumer/small business product and I hate them.

Did you follow the instruction in the manual?

JUst follow the examples in the manual and everything should work just fine unless you have it connected into the network wrong as it should be the first device after the ISP modem that you have put in Bridge mode.

We're connecting to a static IP provided by our ISP
We've enabled DHCP
We're trying to port forward a number of ports to a single internal IP

We have followed instructions
We've talked to support, they say we configured correctly.

Most ports are for outside access to our system.
The significant ports that are used for in and out are ports 5060-5061 which are used for SIP trunks..

We have a cheapie router that works fine. We just set this up for a test on our syste before we configure them for customers and send them out.

Your question about pinging, yes we can ping and we can connect to the router.
Your question about enabling port forwarding,, There is no or I can't find any spot where port forwarding is enabled.

There are services that point to ports and inbound rules that point those services to internal IP addresses.

If there's something missing, please advise.

LOL....The Quality Control manager is the production supervisor. Get upset when you get a box of 10 bad units.

Try this: Static address a PC in your network. Connect the Netgear router and set a port forwarding rule to TCP Port 5900 to that address. Get a copy of VNC and install the server version on the PC and using another PC, install the viewer. Launch the viewer and see if it connects. My guess is it will not.

Get another router.

Agreed. The fact is, Netgear, Linksys, Trendnet and a host of other bargain network gear are all "cookie cutter" mass produced in Asia and, to be honest, when I try to use one, I am amazed when they work, at all.

I am not a fan of Cisco, but they do make good routers and switches. I, personally, like HP routers and switches. The GUI interface makes them easy to program and easier to maintain. They are super reliable and they can be a better price than Cisco without losing any functionality.

I've always liked HP products.

We use these for simple port forwarding, no big deal.

Really though, these consumer grade devices seem to be junk anymore. I love people who have a full blown managed network or IP voice but still have some piece of trash router that freezes once it hits 2000 connections.

SonicWall use to be a good product until Dell bought them. Now they are just as bad as any other Consumer/Small Business Router/Firewall

Just about any of the ProCurve line is good. I installed several for VPN for a clinic and once they are configured, you never mess with them. They just run.
