I have a DCS 50 that we installed an expansion cabinet on and now the customer is complaining of dropped calls and clicking on the lines, we removed the expansion cabinet and the call drops have stopped but the clicking is still present without the expansion cabinet it is clicking about every 30-45 seconds with the cabinet is increases to every 15-20 seconds and then drops the calls. The other strange part is that some of the calls will return on another extension as an intercom call going directly to speaker phone any help on this would be appreciated.

TIA
Don

Only time I've heard of the Ksu's clicking is when you try to access a trunk line that doesn't have a trunk connected to it,the system seems to keep checking the trunk to see if there is a line there every so often.
Is it still dropping calls with the expansion cabinet removed? What cards did the expansion cabinet have in it?
I assume you have done a reset to see if that helps. If you have a misc card, take a backup of the programming and then default the switch and see if that stops the problem.

i have a 50si w/ 1.2 version software and i wanted to add a 8dli card to the system. i already have 3 dlis and a 6 trk. when i put the new card in, the whole system won't come up. tech support says i need new s/w (1.6) because the new cards won't support the old s/w. either that or find a older style 8dli card. this is dumb since they're the same card by type number!! any comments please!!!

Ranger1229,
I have never heard of "newer" 8 dli cards but the 6 trunk card was not available when the 50 si first came out.It did require a specific software level but I'm not sure what level it needed.Let me check into that for you and get back.

There is a service bulliten regarding mixing of DCS 50 and iDCS 100 main and expansion cabinets. Some of the problems are like the ones you decribe. The problems occur only on the cards in the exp. cabinet. Are both the main and exp. cabinets DCS 50?

OK the 6 trunk card requires only version 1.1 or later software.I have never seen a bulletin regarding software versions and 8 dli cards.
There was a service bulletin that referred to the 2x4 cards I believe in the iDCS 100 expansion cabinet. And the problem affected the 3rd slot in the expansion cabinet.Try installing the card that is giving you trouble in another slot that you have a working dli card in, ie switch 2 cards. This will tell you if you have a bad card(seen that take an entire system down before).Could also be a bad expansion cabinet slot.I would also try removing all the expansion cards and install only the new dli card again into a slot that had a dli card.If the system doesn't run then you know it's that card causing the problem.

thanks, but i have tried everything from taking all the cards out and putting my "new" card into the main cabinet and putting the old cards (i have a total of 3 dlis plus the new card) into the expansion and it always faults on the new card. tech support said that they tested the card since this is my second one out of box failure and they came to the conclusion that i needed the software upgrade to make the card compliant. i wish they would have put this out on the tech bulletin. i'll let you know when i get the new s/f since the customer needs this.

just put in the new s/w and still cards are making whole system go down. ordered another card through different vendor and system came up. IT WAS THE CARD!!!

Glad to hear you got it resolved,I've had the same problem twice at a customer with a DCS and both times it was a card that took the entire system down.
