We have a Sprint Protege CTX KSU (K32US4.F06) and ProtegeVoice SVP-4.

The system has already been configured by a phone technician.

The phone technician has programmed a keyset feature key as a voice mail "message waiting" key. Unfortunately, the "message waiting" feature no longer works (i.e. it is having amnesia and it does not light up when we receive a voice mail message). Of course, voice mail is still fully functional.

"Professor Shadow" has a post on how to reprogram the night service mode key already so would I just do as suggested previously to "program a feature under a feature key" except to use "F64" for the voice mail "Message Waiting" key?

The below is from "Professor Shadow" instructions for "program a feature under a feature key"

1. Keyset is idle or in use on a call.
2. Press the Function key and then dial # 3.
3. Press designated feature key to which to program feature.
4. Press soft key F3 below the word “chg.”
5. Press soft key F2 below the word “feat.”
6. Press the Function key and then enter the appropriate feature code number.
7. Press soft key F2 below the word “save” to
save selection.

Thank you for your help. Ken.
Ken,
When you press the voice mail key does it log into the voice mail?
Example:
Press the key labeled "voice Mail"
System should come back and say "Please enter your pass code"

If so, the problem may be with the voice mail.

Also,
To program a voice mail key you would use the instructions above, but a voice mail key is not a "feature key" it is a DIR, so when you get to the part where you see the choice of "Feat" , choose DIR.

DIR = directory number
Directory number for hunt groups start at 430, to see what hunt group the voice mail is in if you don't know, just go to any phone and dial 430 if the voice mail does not answer, then try 431, 432, etc.
Is this the same set that lost the Day/Night key? If so it sounds like the keyset defaulted.

Quick question: Is this a display or non-display keyset?

If this is on just one keyset then you can check the correct button code on a keyset that works fine.

The procedure for checking a button on a display set is:

1. Keyset is idle or in use on a call.
2. Press the Function key and then dial # 3.
3. Press designated feature key you wish to view.

Because non-display sets lack the display this procedure cannot work.

5. Press the Function key and then enter the
appropriate feature code number.

Programming a DSS Key

3. Press the feature key you wish to program.
4. Dial 1.
5. Enter the extension directory number.
6. Press the Hold key to save your selection.

Programming a Speed Dial Number Under a Feature Key

1. Keyset is idle or in use on a call.
2. Press the Function key and then dial # 3.
3. Press the feature key you want to program.
4. Dial 1.
5. Enter the speed dial number.
6. Press the Hold key to save your selection.
7. Receive confirmation tone.

The confirmation tone is a single-ring, a error tone is a double-ring.

Done forget to update the time on your telephone system and also your Voice Mail system. This must me done through attendant programming on the Phone system (any display set) and attendant mailbox on the Voice Mail system (Attendant Mailbox).
Thank you for the replies.

To answer Walterv's questions:
[Q] When you press the voice mail key does it log into the voice mail?
[A] Yes it does log into the voice mail

To answer Professor Shadow's questions:
[Q] Is this the same set that lost the Day/Night key?
[A] Yes it is on the same set that lost the Day/Night key

[Q] Is this a display or non-display keyset?
[A] The keyset is a display

I guess I did not describe the question clearly.
Let me try again. We have a keyset with a display (699029). It has a feature code Function key that was programmed to "Voice Mail". When we got a voice mail, the light/LED next to the programmed feature key would light up indicating that we have voice mail message waiting. We then proceeded to pushing the voice mail feature key to retrieve the voice mail messages. Now, the light/LED next to the voice mail programmed feature key would NOT light up any more when we get new voice mail messages. So, the voice mail system is still working because we can retrieve all our messages but the light/LED next to the programmed feature key no longer lights up.

I believe that all I need to do is to some how reprogram something??? so that the voice mail light/LED on the handset is lit when there is a new voice mail waiting.

Thank you. Ken.
If this is on just one keyset then you can check the correct button code on a keyset that works fine.

The procedure for checking a button on a display set is:

1. Keyset is idle or in use on a call.
2. Press the Function key and then dial # 3.
3. Press designated feature key you wish to view.

The code for the working key will either be

  • F64
  • DIR XXX

Once you have the correct code then you can program F64 by:

2. Press the Function key and then dial # 3.
3. Press designated feature key to which to program feature.
4. Press soft key F3 below the word “chg.”
5. Press soft key F2 below the word “feat.”
6. Press the Function key and then enter the feature code number 64
7. Press soft key F2 below the word “save” to
save selection.

If the code a DIR number then:

1. Keyset is idle or in use on a call.
2. Press the Function key and then dial # 3.
3. Press the feature key you wish to program.
4. Press soft key F3 below the word “chg.”
5. Press soft key F1 below the word “dir.”
6. Enter the resource directory number. (430 et cetera)
7. Press soft key F2 below the word “save” to save the selection.
8. Receive confirmation tone.
