I installed the Inter-Tel 8602 software on my home PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The softphone GUI and Core is version 1.0.0.19, the GIPS is 1.1.8.

The home PC is a Gateway SX-2800 with a Realtek high definition audio driver built into the motherboard. I do not have a separate sound card.

As soon as I fire up the software, I get a message that there are no suitable audio devices on this computer.

I am using a USB Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000 that works just fine with my Vonage Companion and any other application requiring a headset, like Dragon Naturally Speaking. I tried another off brand USB headset, and got the same message.

I thought maybe my software was too old, so I opened a ticket with Mitel to have a technician call me. He called after a week, and when I asked about it maybe being a software issue, he said he had to check and call me back. That was a week ago, he has not called back.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong, or need to change?

The 8602 is not supported on a 64-bit OS. I do have a couple customers running the latest version on Win7 though. The latest version is 1.0.1.12 and your Mitel vendor should've been able to get you that easily. The fact they could not is an indicator of their level of knowledge and service.

I guess maybe try another vendor?

Well shucks.

I got a call from a Mitel tech. He said I do have the latest version of the software. Weird.

They probably don't know what the 8602 is.
Have had some flakiness w/ 8602 on Win7x64, but in general works. Running on the machine I'm typing this on right now.

Did you go through the full setup, getting to the wizard that configures your audio? If that's where the problem is, does your device manager show the audio device and are your drivers latest/greatest?

I have two audio devices on my box, a sound card and an USB Head/Mic set (Logitech), depending on which active both work, although when I change from one to the other I have to tell it I did.
