I have an Amtelco PC-MX for telephone answering and voice-mail connected to a Mitel analog SX-100 which supports executive suite clients.

The Amtelco is an DOS based PC system which can send dial strings and interface with the Mitel.

A client on a Mitel extension that wants to get a message waiting indicator on his phone when the Amtelco operator sends a caller to the Amtelco voice-mail.

(While the Mitel console can send an MWI indicator, that console is not available to the Amtelco operator.)

The Amtelco can send an MWI signal to a telephone which has a message waiting indicator that "is the type that can be activated by a dial string."

Is there any way to send DOS based dial strings? (for example, 1R*7181,.*8181,W)through the Mitel system?

If so, what kind of hand set would be required?

Thanks in advance

I'm not familiar with that voice mail, but if the voicemail has pager notification, you can program the client's extension number in place of the pager dial string. Whenever he has a message, his phone will ring.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
