Hi,

I am having a problem with logging into a Mitel Mail using Hyperterminal. I have the settings correct 9600,7,e,1. When I log in I can't get a console prompt. I have tried CNTL Q and nothing. I think it may be an issue with hyperterminal but I have used the same setup before on another mitel mail system.

I have also tried typing in root to see what happens but nothing. I have tried thru the modem access and on site.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

If you are at the # prompt, try Ctrl D or type exit
Or like VAD says, power off and on.
Is this the Model 70?

Bill,

The old tech ref (TR1929) says the default is 9600, 8, N,1 using X-on/X-off.

Tried all the above, typed exit, tried Cntl Q, tried repowering. The information I was given was it was set up for 9600, 7,E,1.

I'm going to try another program but I hate doing it.

I've tried a bunch of settings. Every time I dial in and connect I press enter and see an X. If I do a cntl Q I see a square. It seems like it's a baud rate isue but I've tried a bunch of settings. I've tried 8 and 7 data bits.

Hmmmm

Sometimes you get problems with modems translating parity. Try ODD and space parity and see if that works.

If it’s not to far away, I would go on site and get a direct connection working. Once you get that, you can setup the modem. Ericom has some 30 day free trial terminal emulation software that may work better that Hyperterminal. Their PowerTerm Plus should work for you, also has SSH for the new servers. Ericom

The annoying part is I've been unable to get a direct connection onsite!

I've worked with these systems before but I'm no expert. I've used hyperterminal more times then I care to think of but there seems to be something squirrelly with the setup or the actual console itself. All I see every time I login despite setting for odd, even or space parity, changing baud rate, number of bits etc. is an X when I press any key. If I press cntl Q I get a box.

Grrrr!

Well that's pretty odd. If you can't get a direct connection then I don't think it is a parameter problem. Have you put a line tester in the loop what kind of lights do you have? Are you utilizing a standard serial port on your computer or a USB to serial port cable? Only thing I can think of is to loop back RTS to CTS and DTR to DCD on the mail side and see if that will bring the port high.
