This morning found that 8 (of total of 45) handsets (type 5212) had flashing green display (no text in that display) and no functionality.

After disconnecting/reconnecting each handset they rebooted and now function OK.

Any idea what might be happening? Could the 3300 ICP be failing? Set the system to reboot tonight in the hope that a clean start might help...

Thanks

There's nothing in your log messages indicating the cause, just noting when the 3300 lost connection with the phones. What's the network setup look like? Are all of the phones connected to the same LAN switch? Is there anything else they have in common somewhere between the desktops and the 3300?

Other things to look for would be a broadcast storm on the network, or a problem with the DHCP server, if you're using an external one.

Rebooted on Monday night. All seems OK... Fingers crossed.

I'm a Mitel fan, but IP, to me anyhow,is a waste of time and money. And thats any IP system. If you want it to be as reliable as TDM phone systems, you have to have separate cabling, separate routers, separate IP system from the computer network. Wasn't the original idea of IP phones that you just plugged them into the exhisting ethernet network? And now that's not the best way to do it anymore? And now you have to reboot once a week? That's what you have now with TDM, with cheaper cabling, cheaper parts, better audio, no weekly reboot, and dare I say it, reliability. What's the last advantage? Free long distance? Once IP starts to hurt the 'Telco Cloud', the fed's will step in and level the playing field and you'll be right back to 3-5 cents a minute for L/D. TDM's that need rebooting once a week have a parts problem that can be easily cured, if the tech knows what he/she is doing. And you don't have to buy licensces yearly, and patches monthly. Remote offices? Been doing that with TIE lines for 30 years. T1's and PRI's do it even cheaper, nowadays. Your going to pay for that link even with IP. Well, that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it. smile John C. (Not Garand)

Don't confuse IP telephone systems with free long distance over the internet. 2 seperate animals as far as I'm concerned!!
And by the way John, I agree witcha 99%.

I can think of 1 application for IP that really works and can't be done by pure TDM sytems. IP link in TDM system for 2-3 phones that traveling employees of the company use. As long as they have access to the internet, their motel room is an 'office cubicle'. Of course, apparently, MagicJack and a cheap S/L will do pretty much the same thing and the investment in equipment is a lot less. THIS IS NOT A PLUG FOR MAGICJACK, I haven't even bought 1 yet! So you carry your laptop and a S/L (or TDM) desk speakerphone in the same 'somewhat' larger case and plop it on the Motel room desk/table, open it up and stretch the self rewinding cables to power and the ethernet port (Or raise the wireless antenna) and "Conduct Business". The case could be a 'docking port' with a BIG LCD display in the lid. Maybe folding so you can have 2 monitors to double the width of your workspace. And pretty soon it be like the 1st portable TV's. The manufacturers put a STURDY handle on a 'small' table model and said "See if you can carry this sucker with one arm!" smile John C. (Not Garand)
