Does anyone have any more details about the joint venture of LG and Nortel. For those that do not know, LG is the partner with Vodavi for their telecommunications equipment. If you go to the website for LG-Nortel they list the LG/Vodavi products (well their LG names) as their products. I know that they are releasing a IP phone to be sold with Covad, but I did not know that they were actually handling all of the LG products now. Does LG even have their telephone devision or does LG-Nortel operate all of that? What could the implications be for Vodavi and Nortel in the rest of the world? Hmm, any information will be appreciated! www.lg-nortel.com Steve

I heard a little bit about it at Vodavi's dealer conference last year and they claimed that it would be a great thing for Vodavi but that was about it. I am curious myself.

Maybe Nortel could teach Vodavi how to come up with programming that makes common sense. That would be nice.
Maybe Vodavi could teach Nortel how to have multi-colored buttons instead of LCD triangles. That would be nice.

Yeah, LG makes just about anything. Everything from cell phones to washer machines to Tvs and computers. From what i can guess I do not believe that it will affect Vodavi much. Being as Vodavi is the brand and distributor of LG in North America I do not see (from what I can tell) that they will change their telephones to the LG-Nortel brand. Just as they have not changed the telephones to the LG brand over the years I do not see that changing any thime soon.....but then who would have thought that LG and Nortel would get together.
One interesting quetsion I can think of is what happens to all of the Nortel products in the countries where LG is a brand name on business phones? Example, South Korea or Great Britian. In those countries they had Nortel and LG.....on the LG-Nortel site they only list the LG brands for the business systems......maybe someone with knowledge of Nortel around the globe can chime in here.

Yeah, interesting name, although I believe that the LG actually stands for "Lucky Goldstar" no joke; though they have kind of dropped that in favor of plain LG.

sounds confusing to me. So does LG make Vodavi's phones and just put Vodavi's name on them? Like a private label or something?

Jeff, Not exactly. LG is a strategic partner and actually owns a good percentage (if not a controlling percentage) of Vodavi from what I understand. Actually, LG has been a strategic partner and a significant investor in Vodavi since their founding in 1983. From their literature: "LG has been a strategic partner and significant investor in Vodavi since we were founded in 1983. As the exclusive supplier of LG's commercial business communications systems in North America, we work together with LG to bring the highest quality products to our customers at the best possible value.......We work closely with LG to integrate our software applications with their hardwae platforms, which are dominant in the worldwide marketplace."
So it is not really so much of private labling like some companies do as it is a true partnership of the companies. However, this partnership is only seen in North America as outside of those countries the product is the LG (or now the LG-Nortel I guess).
