I have an TIE EK-612 controller. Lines 2, 3 and 4 will ring on incoming calls. Lines 1, 4 and 6, ignore in coming calls, (The ksu ring relay does not activate). It is mentioned in the program manual that with no ksu connected to extention 70 the system may revert to "night mode". Will this cause any of the other lines not to work?

It can affect the ringing, why don't you have 70 hooked up? You should still have dial tone even if they don't ring. To avoid this program day and night ringing to be the same, then it won't matter what mode it's in.

Have you checked line access on the stations? Also make sure jacks are wired correctly I have had problems in the past with 1 phone shorting out other phones dur to black yellow reversal at one station.

To give a little history. The EK-612 is the only piece I have. I have no phone extentions. It was removed from an office we moved into (Sound Company I worked for in 1991) when we moved from our old location and into the new one we brought and installed our AT&T phone system. The EK-612 was in crawl space and wired but no extentions remained in any of the offices. The installer did not want it, nor did my boss, so I brought it home. I have had it in storage for several years after tinkering with it initally. A friend and I are soon to open a Hammond Organ retail store. We will be the only authorized Hammond-Suzuki in Los Angeles, and I was hoping to use this with the purchase of roughly 3 delphi (or equivilant)phone terminals to set up a nice reliable and basic phone system in our new office. I also have the System Practice 01400IMG EK-612 Installation and Maintenance Manual in original print which I purchased from TIE/Nitsuko around 1994. This explains why I do not have a phone extention for testing. With the unit plugged and after the software loads and the relays click, applying a ring signal to CO jacks 2,3, and 4 will cause the ring relay inside the unit to cycle. Applying a ring signal to CO jacks 1,5, and 6 produce nothing. Can I still assume that it is just a matter of programming? I am also curious to know if I should replace the 3 cell memory retention battery, since it is obviously so old circa 1984, though there are no signs of leakage or corrosion, better safe than sorry. I am handy with a soldering iron, it is what I do for a living, fix Hammond organs and at times computer circuitry which can be difficult on one's eyes as well as nerves in some of the first digital carillon clock systems. One more thing I remembered. I have read several places that music on hold is an option with the EK-612. I do not see an audio jack for music input. If the EK-612 has this capability how is this done? [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

The EK612 will not support Music On Hold.

If it's been in storage that long there is no telling if the batt. is any good. by default all stations will ring on all lines. It is possible that the batt. is good and the program in the system is causing those lines not to work but I really doubt it. You are going to have to get a phone and see what is going on.

There were a few of them that had MOH, If there isn't an interface on the side then it did'nt. It was a small mini jack on the side, can't miss it if it's there.

Ek-612 does not support MOH ,but therer were an upgrade we used to do in our copmany yrs ago to add MOH on the last pair Violet/slate.I think Like DTMF said the battery will not hold the program all these yrs .I think its deffective unit, and its not worth it to buy phones and try it.I think its time for a small new system ,but if you insist you can initilize the sys from the first ext no 70 by doing
Left the handset and press INTERCOM and dial #09.that will default the system.

Good Luck
