Hello, perhaps someone can answer my question. We have a very old Onyx VS system. We would like to switch to VOIP/SIP service from our cable provider. I was told by one technician that the ONYX may not work with this service (cable modem). Another tech who wanted to hook us up through his service said (sarcasticly) that even systems from the 15th century could work with cable. I do not want to cancel phone service/set up installation if it will not work. Thank you for any help you can give me. Bill

The only problem I can see is if you have a VM with your Onyx VS you may not get a disconnect signal if they can't provide it to end the call there by making the vm hang up after a caller is done, other then that it should work fine.

I have had more issues from Comcast lines than Qwest lines. Problems include:
1) hot lines 2) DTMF being sent/recognized by AutoAttendants (In and out) 3) Proper Disconnect
These problems are usually rectifiable in the system, but since I usually don't have these issues with other providers, I chalk it up to the cable company being sub-standard.

You can expect the Cable company to blame any phone issues on the Onyx

We have had problems with providers just not understanding how to program their own ATAs & larger equipment. If there seems to be a problem, the first words out of their mouths seem to be "Well, it's that old telephone system of yours". I always say, "Well, it worked fine before, so it can't be the telephone system."
Actually, around here, Comcast, the cable company, has been quite good and we have had minimal issues with them, as opposed to other CLECs, that we have constant DTMF, Caller ID, & disconnect supervision problems.
