I have a Nortel 2-line Desk Receptionist phone moded 452. I have been experiencing this problem for about two years. I sent the phone in twice for repair, but it still has a problem.

The problem is the phone automatically dials a series of the same numbers like 444 or 222 when unattended. The speakerphone activates and the numbers are dialed, then the recorded voice can be heard "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up," and then the off the hook beeping, etc happens.

This doesn't appear to fit any pattern. It will go for weeks and be fine, then suddenly will do it several times in one day, or in the middle of the night. The only thing strange we have noted is that the infrared light occasionally flashes (strange, because we do not have the optional keyboard).

The phone is less than two feet below a computer and 12 inches from the computer monitor. Could this be a factor? This problem has happened both with the computer on and off.

I'd like to keep the phone, since we invested a little money into it, but am about ready to trash it and find a replacement.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Is this phone attached to a digital system, like a Nortel MICS or Nortel ICS? Or is it a two line analog phone? (If it is part of a digital system then the receptionist phone extension is probably 211.) The answer will vary depending on which type of phone this is.

it is possible that the computer can affect the phone.Try moving it a little farther away.If this phone has external power, make sure it is not plugged into the same outlet as the computer. All support for the PowerTouch 452 is now done by Aastra Communications, not Nortel. You can call them at 905 760 4200 or contact technical support at "[email protected]"
