MICS4.1

VMAIL ringing service is set to "Auto", all other services set to "Off". I changed the control set for all lines/sets from DN 228 to DN 229. DN 229 now displays the "Services ON" message when VMAIL is active.

The strange thing is that DN 228 momentarily beeps "Access Denied" the moment VMAIL ringing begins. What's also interesting is that when you exit out of a programming session on DN 228, about 3 seconds later you get the same "Access Denied" on the display for a moment. This only happens while VMAIL ringing is engaged...during normal hours no such message appears.

I have checked & double-checked to be sure that DN 228 is not assigned as a control set anywhere - where else can I look?

Thanks for any input.

Hi Mike,

Does the display really say "Access Denied", or does it say "Denied in Admin"?

Just a couple of thoughts:

Check for a Ringing Service key on 228 (F 871). If it is no longer the Control set, you can get rid of that key.

Also, check for a stuck button on 228.

Your software is 4.1. Do you know which Production Version it is? It will be something in the range of G00-G15. If it is G00, think about replacing that feature cartridge.

If everything looks OK, and all that you've done is change the Control set, you might try cycling the power on the system (do a backup first).

Hope that helps!

Thanks BCMGuy...always helpful with the advice.

I just briefly changed our service sched to confirm...and it is definitely "Access Denied", not "Denied in Admin".

No ringing service key on 228, no stuck buttons. 228 is also not a control set for any line or set.

As far as I know, the system hasn't had its power cycled in about four years now - so perhaps that's it?

To what device does one backup to on a Norstar? I'm pretty sure this has never been done at this site.

Under night schedule make sure extra dial is set to new DN. Also make sure old DN is not in ringing group with VM.

Thanks Texas.

The ExtraDials were all set to none. Experimented with changing it to the new control set DN, then engaged the VMail schedule...but no change (still "Access Denied" the moment the service kicks in).

Also confirmed that the no DNs except for Flash are in any ringing group.

A backup is performed using Norstar Remote Utilities software. The backup resides on the PC running NRU. The PC connects to the Norstar by way of a FastRAD.
