I thought that I would throw this one out there and see if someone might have some suggestions.

Ihave a CICS with a Flash VM 2.0.10 feature cartridge. system has been operating for 2 or more years. VM stopped working over the weekend. Feature 983 shows inactive feature. when I connect my laptop the diagnostics test shows everything passing. I verified that the VM ports were good by plugging a phone in. VM recognizes when I disconnect the line cord by giving errors.I tried shorting out the capacitor on the mother board and substituted the PCMCIA with a working test lab PCMCIA.
the error I get is that when I enter the password. The response is: Nortel Norstar Flash configuration in progress. please wait.
and the voice mail stops. Before I ship this unit out for repair, any thoughts would be appreciated.
P.S. am I correct that there are no holiday schedules or temporary greetings in the Norstar VM units? thanks again.

Have you tried F903? Maybe the VM is set to the alternate Feature range.

There are no holiday scheds in a Flash, but there can be temporary greetings.

Your flash has probably defaulted back to square one. F903 will get you going again.

NEVER SHORT THE CAP.

Why would you not short the cap with a 6 volt flashlight bulb and let it drain down to default telemarv?

My guess is that it probably will work 99% of the time and no one wants to be "responsible" for that 1 time that it "blows it up". I have done it without any problem. The slow lightbulb way may be better for it than shorting. But who knows. It just doesn't sound professional........but it works.

WE've had this discussion before.

Bunny yes you can use a flash light battery or resistor to bleed off the cap. I always stress not to short the CAP directly but use something to bleed

Using "good old pliers" is playing with fire... Its basic ohm's law

Current = voltage / resistance
5 volts / resistance of pliers (0.1 ohms) = 50 amps of current. although the duration is very short, it's enough current to weld.

One of these times sentrex1 you will arc and burn those tiny hair width tracks on the circuit board.
