When I took the ESI training, the instructor kept refferring us to what other systems do and how they're programmed, as examples. I was completely lost, as the ESI was the FIRST system I have learned (OK, so far only system...). I kept having to interrupt him to clarify things, as I was a complete newbie. Luckily with only three others in the group, they were understanding, and they all helped me catch up with the nomenclature that they are used to.

With the forum, I've come to the conclusion that most systems are all basically the same. They have CO lines and they have stations. They all handle incoming calls, and they all handle outgoing calls. Most have voicemail and IVR menus. The details of programming them are just slightly different, and IT'S ALL IN THE MANUAL! The only time you have to memorize something is MAYBE for a test. Our tests were open book/computer. As long as we knew exactly where to find the answer, we were good to go.

This thread was temporarily moved to the Moderator's Forum to deal with an issue. A Board Moderator improperly posted and caused an hostile response to grow. We aplogize and this issue has been dealt with accordingly. The thread has been returned. If anyone has anything further to post to assist danmcgrathm I'm sure he would appreciate it.

Thank you.

So, are you going to the interview or not and if you did the interview how about telling us how it went?

IT guys got it made. Everything they work on is one version or another of Windows.
Rotsa Ruck finding one of those jobs in this area! Most IT is outsoruced or you are expected to know it in addition to everything else.

If you can learn the Avaya, from what I remember of the Nortel (we only have one Nortel system we service out there...they're not as common around here), you should have little problem making the switch to the Nortel....

When I took the Northern Telecom SL1 Installation and Maintenance class back in ... oh, a long time ago... I too was a beginner. These students kept wanting to argue with the instructor. "On the NEC it does this" and "The AT&T will do that". That got old fast. As if I wasn't confused enough by the Nortel.

Except for the fact that Avaya likes to charge way too mcuh for it's product, I much prefer the Avaya G3 platform.

Anyway, as for danmcgrathm, If they are extending the opportunity, just tell em what you know and that you are willing to learn a new system.

If Dan is still checking in, I and probably others would like to know if he did the interview, how it came out, say that if you have 3 posts or a 1000 posts, this board is a place to ask questions, answer questions, get help, offer help and you did everything right.
